Context

A fiction sample focused on structure and emotional geography. The story uses domestic space as a record of friendship, avoidance, and belated honesty.

By the time Eli moved out, we had named every room after the argument that started there.

The kitchen was June. The hallway was the night nobody slept. The bedroom remained unnamed because neither of us trusted ourselves with mercy.

When the landlord asked if we wanted the damage deposit mailed together or separately, Eli laughed like the question had been written by someone who knew us.
